A Desperate Plea

Hey I'm back! I missed you all too!!! Now on to the post...

Trict…shipwa…seesswre…jezoof.  I know they aren't real words but type them as fast as you can. NOW. FASTER. YOU’RE TOO SLOW! BOO!!!

Am I alone in this or does everyone hate those horrid blog verification words? Yes, you do—I know you do.

Well good news. YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF.

So this is my plea today. Everyone go into the settings on your blog and turn it OFF. I know they are there to help people from getting comment spam, but has anyone ever REALLY gotten comment spam? I never have. And even after I turned mine off, I haven’t gotten comment spam.

Need help? Have no fear. This is easy peasy. Well kind of...

If you are using the new blogger interface you will have to switch back to the old one. There was a problem and they forgot to add this link to the new interface.

Switching to old interface.
  • Click Design on the top of your blog page
  • See that little gear close to your picture? Click it.
  • Click Old Blogger interface. Now we are cruising :)

 Turning off Verifier
  • Click Settings
  • Click Comments
  • Scroll to the almost bottom and Click NO for Show word verification for comments
  • That is it! Now you can switch back to the new interface if you were using it. The link is at the top of the page.

Please take 2 minutes and switch it off…I’m begging you. Angela Ackerman (TheBookshelf Muse) did a post of this very thing back in March—Is Your Blog Easy To Love? She totally backs me up.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see—Your comment has been published—and I didn’t even have to type in that nonsense word!

Please will you do it? I’m BEGGING you. It can be your New Years present to me :)

-Angie

I agree with you but people seem to think it offers them some kind of protection. Here's hoping your message gets through to at least a few people.

I do occasionally get comment spam but I set my blog so I have to "approve" the comments before they get appear. That way, I delete the spammy/weird ones. (I used to have the word verification but I stopped it...I think. Now I have to go check!)

Mine is turned off as well, but I do get spam often. I just delete it when it comes in. Luckily, I am OCD when it comes to checking email, so I get the spam pretty early.

I think I was successful, but I don't know how I'll know cuz I've never had to verify my own comments on my own blog, lol.

Only for you girl... only for you! Mine are officially off. Actually - I was meaning to do that anyway, so thanks for the reminder. :)

Mine is off, too. It's one of the first things I did when I started my blog.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!

Yeah! You're back! For a minute, I thought you were (perhaps) in cahoots with the Wikipedia guy :)
I think mine is off... but I will check.

I've never had mine on and I can back you up! I've never gotten spam :)

Oh crap. When did that happen? Well, it's gone now! Thanks for telling me ;)

I turned mine off long ago after attending a class about blogging by Elana Johnson. When we're trying to visit as many blogs as possible in a short period of time, those little things really slow things up. Ugh!

So there was this one time that I thought about writing every crazy word that pops up on these things and putting them down for everyone to see. Some are soooo crazy.

I've turned mine off. The only time that I think it's OK to have it is when you have pop up window that is separet from your blog and the word verification is all ready in the window.

I turned mine off day one but wish all the world could hear your plea. I agree - it drives me crazy.

I've turned mine off. Didn't know it was on, since I started my blog after the new interface came in. Thanks for this post!

I'm with you on this. I did it a while ago because I can't stand it either. Welcome back! Happy New Year my dear!

they annoy me too...

I turned mine off after a week. Spammers usually target older posts so I have my blog set to hold comments on posts over 7 days old until I've checked them.

I'm with you. I was so sad the day I discovered that I hadn't actually turned mine off, when I thought I had. But now IT'S OFF! (Unless it's not. Then tell me, please) ;)

Ugh! I feel your pain. I turned mine off a few months ago:)
