I Love Your Blog

Angela Ackerman of The Bookshelf Muse recently posted thoughts on how to create a break-out blog. I loved her ideas. Here are a few of my own. This is what makes me love your blog:

Humor: If you can make me laugh—I’m hooked. It doesn’t have to be stand up comedy. I love quirky, silly, everyday funny. And I truly believe everyone has some humor in them :)

Brevity: If a blog post is brief I’m more likely to read more and more posts. I’m ashamed to say if a post is REALLY long I will skim or skip it entirely. Come on—use your writing skills to be concise.

Knowledge: I want to learn something when I read a blog. Writing tips. Editing Ideas. Metaphors that make me look at things differently. I suck up every bit of learning I can—so share your knowledge.

Sincerity: I love blogs where I really get a sense of the writer. Who they genuinely are is obvious in their posts. Just like in books, I love to see peoples flaws, strengths, wishes, joys. Show me who you are!

What do you look for in blog posts?

Knowledge is the top thing for me. I don't have much time to peruse blogs...but I'm always glad I did if I can walk away a better writer (or cook, or person in general).

I have to agree with you, but I'd put Humor at the top. As a sometimes lonely writer I need a good laugh. I can get knowledge everywhere. Give me a funny, brief, inspiring blog and I'm all over it.

THanks for visiting the Write Game. I appreciated your visit.

I love humor. And I love learning new things. I also love learning little things about the person behind the blog as well. I love how you can tell a persons "voice" just by reading one post on their blog. If I like the voice I'll keep coming back to visit. And I'll buy their book when it comes out. ;)

Yes! All of these! I will read long posts if there's something heavy and important, like plotting information that's presented in an organized way. But mostly, I heart Kiersten White's blog because she makes me laugh (with her or at myself).

I guess my favorites have all of the above, especially that last one: sincerity.

Great tips - and probably the reason I love your blog, Angie :)

I like it short, sweet and personal.

Sara - I love tapping into the wealth of writer brains in the blog-o-sphere.

Lee - Humor gets me every time.

Chantelle - I totally agree with you. I tend to shy away from books by people who are rude and mean online.

Katrina - I love Kiersten's blog too.

Kim - You are sweet :) I love your blog too!

Miranda - Amen!

I agree 100%. We were just talking about that with our crit group. I hate it when a post is a mile long and it's not even fun. I either skim or skip. And humor is just a given! You've got to have fun!

I always thought my posts were too insubstantial for people to be interested in... I hope it's as you say and that's a good thing!

I'm a sucker for funny. Especially every day funny--someone who sees the world a little differently. Occasional posts of man candy and the lol cats are good too!
