Friday Funnies—Valentines Prep

I remember in grade school when it was Valentine's Day. My anti-candy mom let me put one conversation heart in with my valentine (this is when they came with envelopes. Did I just date myself? Snap. Oh well).

I was VERY careful about who got which one. You didn't want to give the boy who wiped boogers under his desk the one that said "Kiss Me." He might get the wrong idea. It was much safer to give him the meaningless "Chill Out." I didn't know it at the time but this was my first dabblings into social politics.

So this week I was helping my son prep his valentines (which he still calls "Valentimes" even at 10 years old...cute!) and the conversation went something like this:

Kido: I love Valentimes.
Me: Why?
Kido: You get to give people stuff
Me: You like that.
Kido: Yes, you have to get them a valentime for their personality. Like Devin...he likes taco's.
Me: ?

So if you are wondering what to get a 10 year old who likes tacos...It’s an alien dressed like a caveman :)

If I had to pick out a conversation heart for Devin I would choose "Heat Wave"—because tacos are hot...as you can see...I still got it!

Have a great weekend :)

Oh man I so did that too. I also read into mine way too much. Sort-of like that Simpsons episode.

"I choo-choo choose you." :)

That is SO cute. I remember doing the Valentines thing to and you had to be very careful. Ah...to be young again. No thanks :) haha

Ha, love it! Heat Wave for taco kid, definitely. And this is totally random but I just scrolled past the 'you might also like' posts and there is a picture from your post 'what I learned about romance from my husband' and, at a quick glance, I thought he was matt damon.

I once saw a parody on those hearts. It was part of a photoplasty of Valentine's Day, Adjusted for Honesty. They had a candy heart that said, "You'll Do."

It cracked me up, in a terrible terrible way.

My kids were doing the same thing. My six-year-old thought long and hard about which one to give the girl he has a crush on and my ten-year-old kept lamenting that some poor chap was going to get the 'best teacher' valentine.

LOL! Too cute! I love it. And I miss the Valentines with envelopes. I loved picking out special candy hearts for people. It was awesome. *sigh* O-well. It's still fun to watch my kids decided which Valentine goes to which person.

We had the same analysis at our house! Apparently you give the super-obnoxious boy in your class a picture of a puppy that says "STAY and be my Valentine" and the cute boy who you absolutely, positively do not like, even though he is sometimes kind of nice and smart...he gets kittens.

Ha ha! How cute. I seriously think it's a rip off that we don't get envelopes with the Valentines anymore. :P My kids don't really look in to all the sayings on their little conversation hearts yet. I'll give them a few years. I do remember when I did that though! :D

Haha, I remember that dilemma. It could be so stressful!

Ha! I love the way kids think! In many ways it makes sense.

Both my girls had boys ask them to be their Valentine's this year. I thought it was the cutest thing ever. Love elementary school holiday celebrations.

Hehehe! That was hilarious. Must make a mental note about that valentime for taco lovers!

Super cute story--thanks for sharing!

Oh yes! You had to be very careful about who got what card. And then you analyzed the ones you got in return. Ah, good times. Through really, I just wanted the candy.

haha...good stuff!

Cute! I always read waaaayyy too much into my cards, too! I always thought if a cute boy gave me a sweet card, he liked me! Funny, all the cards were "sweet" in their own way!

I love your son's point of view about giving stuff. And I'm as astute about who to give what to. I just made sure that guys I didn't like didn't get something that might, as you said, give them the wrong idea.

Cute post and don't worry about the info dating you. Only those of us old enough to remember when the valentines candy came like this are old enough to know that you have hinted at your age. Don't worry your secret is safe with me. I wish my ten year old son had the same sweet atitude at your son.
