Crafting Corner—Miracle

This isn’t so much of a crafting tip as it is a break through! Now if you all already know this humor me :)

Do you ever feel like your head is so full of words you just want to empty it? And wouldn’t it be nice to do it as fast as you could talk?

Who has used the app—Dragon Dictation? I’ve just discovered it. And it is a MIRACLE!

All you do is speak CLEARLY into your phone or computer and it types your words out and you can e-mail it to yourself. The first time I tried it I thought the app was broken, but it is important to talk SLOW and ENUNCIATE.

I will admit I felt like a fool sitting in the parking lot next to Starbucks (you do need an internet connection for it to work), but I “wrote” 800 words in 30 minutes last night. AMAZING (at least for a slow writer like me). I have to do a little tweaking, like adding punctuation, but it is still a break through.

So I want to know who else has tried it? Do you love it? Any other writing break throughs you want to tell me about?

Until last night, at my local RWA meeting, I'd never heard of this. And now less than 12 hours later the name comes up again. It must be a sign. :)

I haven't tried it, but I've heard great things about it!

This is new for me and I'm so excited to check it out! Thanks for sharing! Apple Store AWAY!

I tried it, but I must not enunciate or my Southern drawl gets in the way. :(

I've never heard of this but I think I have something similar (voice memo? notes?) on my phone already. The problem I see for me - I don't speak slowly, I don't enunciate, and I talk with my hands - a lot! - and I'm pretty sure that won't translate. :)

I've used it. I don't like it. It doesn't go fast enough for me and there were enough mistakes in the dictation to make me frustrated. I wrote my first book by hand, and used Dragon to get it onto the computer. WORST IDEA EVER. Maybe if I used it as I wrote the thing like you are it would be better. And speaking into your phone while out and about. Yeah, I can see the value in that.

That is one slick software, My hubby got it and had me train it since I was having some wrist issues at the time. My only problems is my creativity seems to come from my fingers rather than my mouth. I get all hung up on the words. I guess I could do it better if I didn't look at the screen while I typed. I may have to give it a try again because author Cindy Hogan goes for walks and talks into a recorder as she works through scenes. I could use a little walking. lol

How cool is that! I'd just be afraid of having a lot of "ums" and "uhs" in the word count as I tried to get the story out. :)

Super cool. My only hesitation is whether I could get the words to flow in the same way. It might take some practice...like anything new!

I tried it once, and I, too, thought it was broken! I talk fast. I might just have to channel the inner enunciator in me, and give it another shot.

I'm looking for it right now :) Thanks!

I've heard of the app but haven't tried it yet. I've contemplated getting it. But I don't know how it would react to a deep voice. As a female, I've had the dubious honor of being referred to as a "sir" during a few fast food trips. Plus, I've been told I speak softly.

So, hmmm...

I've heard of it but never tried it. The funny thing is that no more than five minutes ago I was wishing that I could stand and write more. This might be just the answer.

Squeee! You just made my day! I'm trying this! I'm TOTALLY trying this! How do you know about everything? Honestly woman, is there anything you can't do? I think no!

I'm going to try this too! I have it but have never used it. Didn't even cross my mind to use it in this context. It will be interesting, though, to see what comes up from what I say.

This sounds really cool. I would feel weird, though, not actually writing my own stuff out. hehe

I'm going to have to give this a try. I'm also looking for an app that will make the words in my brain come out of my mouth and/or typing hands.

I haven't tried it, but it sounds really helpful. I have a really short attention span, though; I have a feeling that I'd end up saying other random things that I just happened to be thinking about, and then my stories would end up being really weird.

I bought it but haven't loaded it yet...like some others have said, I'm a little concerned that it will impede the flow of words. Might work for blogging better than stories/novels for me. Time will tell.

I've finally downloaded this! I think! LOL! I've got to try it. Somehow I've got to finish this book, and I think this will help a ton right now! :D
