My FAVS of 2012

I know this is extremely late, but about a month behind seems like how I’ve been rolling lately—better late than never right?

I read 90 books in 2012—10 short of my goal, but still impressive. I was surprised how many books were just okay with only a few terrible ones. Here are 5 of my favorites. Add them to your TBR list.

CINDER—Best fairytale retelling I’ve ever read! Super creative with fabulous characters. This book is a great example of using more than one great high concept idea—Cyborg Cinderella in Asia, mixed with creepy invaders from the moon.

THE SCORPIO RACES—The writing in this book was AMAZING. Lyrical just like I like it.  It was so cool how Stiefvater mixed the macabre with the beautiful.

THE NIGHT CIRCUS—This book was GORGEOUS! It’s a little bit of a slow moving story, but the fact that you want to stay in the world the author has created makes it worth it. The setting is just as much of a character (maybe more) then the actual characters. I seriously felt myself relax every time I opened it up. Fabulous writing!!! But if you are looking for plot you might be a bit thrown off.

FRIENDS AND FOES—I love Sarah Eden. She has such a talent for crafting believable and moving romances. I will read anything she writes.

SAVE THE CAT—AMAZING!!! Seriously, the best book on story structure I've ever read. Even though it is for screenwriters the principles really are universal for all storytellers. If you don’t own it, you should.

Here are 5 other books that made my favorites list:
EDENBROOK – Julianne Donaldson
PALACE OF STONE – Shannon Hale
SHADOW AND BONE – Leigh Bardugo
TUESDAYS AT THE CASTLE – Jessica Day George
LEGEND – Marie Lu

Happy Reading in 2013

Is it shameful that I haven't read any of these? I do have Save The Cat, though! :D

I haven't read any of these either. But Night Circus is on my list and I've been seeing Maggie S.'s name all over the place and probably should check her out.

I've been hearing a lot about Cinder lately. Seems everyone loves it. I may have to give it a read.

I loved Edenbrooke and Save the Cat! I have been dying to read Cinder, The Scorpio Races, Shadow & Bone, and Legend, but sadly, even though they ARE AT MY HOUSE, I haven't been able to get to them. :( Thanks for the other great recs!

I loved, loved, loved The Night Circus! Save the Cat was great, too. I got it as a Christmas gift and read it right away. (Then went and bought a board.) ;)
The first two are on my TBR list, I think I'll add #4, too!

I haven't read any Sarah Eden yet, but I will! And Cinder wasn't my favorite. I'm a HUGE Cinderella fan (favorite Disney movie EVER), and this retelling didn't do it for me. Cinderella being a techy/mechanic threw me off, I think.

Ahhh, Save The Cat! LOVE this one. Have you read the sequels, Save The Cat! Goes To The Movies (not as good, IMO), and Save The Cat! Strikes Back (the best of the three, IMO)?

Check them out in 2013!

I couldn't get into Cinder. Maybe I should try again...

I read several of those same books and loved them too! I was surprised how much I actually liked Cinder. I didn't think I would as much as I did.

I've been wanting to read The Night Circus for a while, ever since I heard it was written during NaNoWriMo actually. And Tuesdays at the Castle is a great book.

I've read of many people who adored Save the Cat. I just want to save it looking at it on that cover.

Love your list of favs. I believe the majority of them are already on my TBR list.

Now, if I can just manage to read 1/4th the number of books you read, I'd be making mad headway lol!

Scorpio Races was very good :)

Cinder is one of my favorites too. The storytelling is just so well done. I've gone back to reread the first chapter again and again to figure out what about it draws you into the story so much. The sequel, Scarlet is out now too, so I'm interested to see where that takes the story.

The Scorpio Races was one of my top 2012 picks as well. Love it to pieces. Also thoroughly enjoyed Night Circus, Save the Cat, and Cinder. I haven't read Friends and Foes, but now I have it on hold at the library (thank you!)
