Lessons in Storytelling—Ode to Walt

Me, Sister Bug, and Pluto
It rained our last day...yes those are ponchos
I’m back from Disneyland!

A big thanks to all of you who live by me—for not robbing my house :) I do have shelves and shelves of books a lot of you want.

Disneyland was so much fun. There is something that lights up in my kids faces there that can’t be duplicated. I just love it!

I wanted to take today and give a small tribute to Walt Disney. What a great storyteller! Here are a few quotes by the Dreamer himself—I think they work wonderfully for writers :)

"In learning the art of storytelling by animation, I have discovered that language has an anatomy."

"I just make what I like - warm and human stories, ones about historic characters and events, and about animals. If there is a secret, I guess it's that I never make the pictures too childish, but always try to get in a little satire of adult foibles."

"I can never stand still. I must explore and experiment. I am never satisfied with my work. I resent the limitations of my own imagination."

"Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work it until it's done and done right."

"My fun is working on a project and solving the problems."

"A good ending is vital to a picture, the single most important element, because it is what the audience takes with them out of the theater."

"You don't build it for yourself. You know what the people want and you build it for them."

Total side note—I missed you guys :) I hope you all had a great week last week, no computer viruses, unexplained deaths, or missing puppies. Happy Monday!

-Angie

P.S. - Shelly Brown :) I don't remember when you said this, but you are so right...the Ferris Wheel at California Adventure is by far the scariest ride!!!

Welcome back. I love Disney. I'll be going next month to Disney World. I've never been out west, but I bet it's just as fabulous.

Welcome back! Glad to hear you had a good time. Those quotes are great, and you're right, some can easily apply to writing/ writers too.

We went to DisneyWorld one year and it rained and flooded everyday. As in record floods for Florida. Didn't stop the kids from having a blast, though. Glad you had fun!

I'm glad you had a fun time! I enjoyed California Adventure. With it, and the addition of Downtown Disney, Disneyland is more fun than ever before!

You were missed! : )

So fun! Glad you had a good time. I haven't hit the ferris wheel yet, so one day I'll have to try it. We missed you at our chaotic dinner, but don't worry. We'll be doing it again!

Wow, so much fun! I want to go so bad. I've been debating on going for spring break, but last year when we went it was a mad house. Ugh. is it ever slow?

Wow, I think I said it when Tara Tyler was on WWS with me and we were talking Disney. But it's mostly the fact that my kids don't sit still very well.

I hope you had a FABULOUS time. I'm getting the Disneyland bug SO bad!

Sounds like you had fun! And I love those quotes.

Um, I think California Screamer is scarier. I rode it once, but never again, thank you very much. lol

Glad you had a wonderful time and that's you're back in the blogosphere to indulge yourself in our quirky ways.

Those quotes by Walt Disney are very inspiring. I've often heard that he was great to work with and for but that he was also just as hard, if not harder, on himself than he was on others as he strived to produce the legacy that lives and breathes today.

Nah, only a few unexpected deaths. No biggie! But we missed you too! I thought about you so many times last week, wondering what ride you were on at the moment. SO fun.

I miss those days of driving sown to Disneyland. WD had such an imagination. And do you know, today, Disney's designers are called Imagineers?! How cool would it be to call yourself that?!
