Deep Thoughts

Do any of you post quotes, thoughts or scriptures on your walls? Mirrors? Refrigerators? I do. I also have a journal where I file away little gems and quotes that inspire me, lift my spirits, or help me smile.

Well, today is day eight of NaNo and for a variety of reasons, I needed a little pick me up; something to elevate my thoughts. Incidentally, my quote journal is missing and so I had no choice but to forage for some new material. In my search for inspiration, I happened upon a few gems and thought I'd share. I also invite you to share a few with me and anyone else who peruses the comment board. I LOVED all your comments last Tuesday regarding your 'Thoughtful Spots' and I'd love to glean some of your favorite quotes or inspirational thoughts as well.

Enjoy!

"I wonder if we'd be less cavalier about cutting down trees if they could scream; unless they screamed all the time for no reason." --Jack Handy, Saturday Night Live
"I know of no more encouraging fact than the ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. It is something to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so make a few objects beautiful. It is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look."
--Henry David Thoreau

"Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!"
--May West

"To live is so startling, it leaves little time for anything else."
--Emily Dickinson

"Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride."
--President Gordon B. Hinckley

Happy Writing Everyone!

I looooooove quotes!
I actually have a Collins pocket book of quotes, though not all my favourite ones are in it.
You've given me an idea... to write a post of the ones I really love... or maybe post one at the beginning/end of each week.
I hope you bounce back quickly from your temporary "slump". :)

Oh My Gosh! Jack Handy? I couldn't stop laughing. There are great quotes. I love quotes too :) We just remodeled our bathroom and I have quotes hanging in frames all over the walls, so people can be inspired while they...you know :) A few of my favorites are:

"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act" - George Orwell

"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them." - Galileo

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." - Albert Einstein.

I read your title and in my head said, "by Jack Handy". And low and behold you included some of his brilliance! Thanks for the inspiration and laugh today.

Great quotes. I've never been much into quotes but when I do read them they are fun. I love the Thoreau quote.

Thanks for sharing these! They're the perfect mix of funny and uplifting. I can tell why you keep them around.
I can't think of a quote off the top of my head, except for this one: "Do I look like a man with a plan?" The Joker, dressed as a nurse, in The Dark Knight. Hilarious.

Angie, loved all of the quotes. Especially the Handy quote. I didn't laugh -- it made me wonder what do they feel? They are life and all life is connected. Sorry, getting too deep.

Wonderful! I used to have that last one tacked to my mirror.
So... I do in fact have my quote journal handy (writers:) One of my favs is from Somerset Maugham's The Painted Veil : "Of all these (pictures, music, books), the richest in beauty is the beautiful life. That is the perfect work of art."
Good luck with Nano! Sounds like you are definitely inspired :)
