Please NO MORE CAPTCHA!

Trict…shipwa…seesswre…jezoof.  I know they aren’t real words but type them as fast as you can. NOW. FASTER. YOU’RE TOO SLOW! BOO!!!

Am I alone in this or does everyone hate those horrid blog verification words (captcha)? Yes, you do—I know you do.

Well good news. YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF.

So this is my plea today. Everyone go into the settings on your blog and turn it OFF. I know they are there to help people from getting comment spam, but has anyone ever REALLY gotten comment spam? I never have. And even after I turned mine off, I haven’t gotten comment spam.

Photobucket

Need help? Have no fear. This is easy peasy. Well kind of. Shelly Morris has information on her blog today about how to fix this so check it out HERE.

Please take 2 minutes and switch it off…I’m begging you. Angela Ackerman (The Bookshelf Muse) did a post of this very thing back in March—Is Your Blog Easy to Love. She totally backs me up.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see—Your comment has been published—and I didn’t even have to type in that nonsense word!

Please will you do it? I’m begging you.

-Angie

Love, love, love this post. It's a plea for sanity! I hope bloggers head this advice.

Happy Captcha Craptcha day to you! I always gotta check to see if I spelled that right after I type it.

They drive me nuts, and I'm noticing more and more blogs have them on that didn't before. I'm wondering if the blog owners don't realize they are on. The worst are the ones who have them on AND comment moderation. What's the point????

Truer words have never been said. Even from Florida.

Thanks for making a stand against frustration and tears. May the blogging world be a better place because of you.

Great advice. It just isn't useful for blogs anymore.

I'm pretty sure mine is off. . .But I thought that once before and it turned out I was wrong. Maybe I should double check. . .

those things are evil! I have mine turned off, but there was a time when i'd make others suffer through them.

YES, turn the captchas OFF! They take too much time and if worried about spam, there's a better option, called... COMMENT MODERATION. It's way better than the captchas!

I couldn't agree more! :)

Sometimes those fakey captcha words provide me with a laugh. But most often they drive me nuts! I usually have to refresh and refresh the garbledeguck until I can read it without going cross-eyed. So amen, sister. Let's change the world, one captcha-less blog at a time!

make my day! cancel the captchas!

I hate them too and have had it off for a while.

However, not to long ago, I was getting 10-20 emails a day of junk comment notifications coming through to my email. Google always deletes them straight away, but they still came to my email.

It was on ONE particular post, and what I was able to do was turn off the commenting on the single post, which was cool. Now I don't get many - yay!

CRAP! I can't believe I missed this blogfest! I was in FL of all places. I thought about emailing you to let you know, but the fam had us on such a tight schedule, I wouldn't have been able to pull off a visit. How are you liking it there?

I hope people will listen. I hate trying to figure those darn things out!

I hope this happens every November 12th. Or maybe it should happen on the 12th of every month of every year. I HATE CAPTCHA!

It was so awesome to see how many people did this. Makes my commenting so much easier :)

I get very little spam even with captcha off. I hate the darn thing!

I didn't know it was turned on, so thank you! (I think I switched it off now..)

Donna K. Weaver said...

Yes! Turn it off!

I am TOTALLY on this bandwagon.

I remember when someone wrote a post about this a while back I was like, "I really don't like it when people have this." Then the person hosting the post emailed me and was like... ummm, you have captcha on.

!!!!

It turns out that when Blogger updated it made it so Captcha was the default and I didn't realize it. haha

Captcha KILLS me. Especially now that the words are hard to read and there are pics of numbers. My eyes are not meant to do these things, they barely see! It usually takes me 3 tries per comment. Ugh.
